Fish - Watercolor This reconstruction is of a fossil fish
known as a "pholidophoriform",
based on
several fossils in various states of completeness. This was a difficult
project because it required reconstructing a skull and postcranial skeleton,
and then trying to interprete shape, color, and light. I think I did
a good
job on the latter part (it looks like a fish) but I'm pretty sure some
aspects
of the skull are incredibly inaccurate. The medium is watercolor. |

Horseshoe Crab - Watercolor This was a relatively easy subject to paint, as I was basing it more or less directly from an actual specimen. The only tricky part is that horseshoe crabs are extremely round and three-dimensional, as well as highly reflective and somewhat blotchy. It took some work to communicate all three of these with the final painting. The medium is watercolor. |

Blender - Pen These are contour drawings. If you are not familiar with the concept of contour drawings, consider. You are attempting to draw a complex object with no reference of where your drawing utensil may or may not be. Certainly the final product remote resembles the subject, but only if the subject were to be passed through a blender set to "puree." These are various views of my left hand. Supposedly. |
