I had a lot of fun discovering how lines aren’t really horizontal in perspective drawing. And it was a beautiful warm winter day when we did this exercise.

I chose this because of its personal meaning (and I put a lot of time into planning it). It is my reconstruction of my Aunt Meg’s memory of her mother, my grandmother Bernadine, when she was a young woman. All the women in the family are passionate about reading.

This was the first exercise I really got into and the first time I felt that I might do ok in this class.

When I started this project I thought it could be disastrous – I was unsure of whether I could get the carapace looking 3D or get the shading realistic. I’m just happy that it wasn’t a disaster in the end!
